Development
You need to …
1.
Register for Skills Development Levies within 6 months after formal
establishment of the new business-that is if you foresee that you will
exceed a payroll of R500 000 per annum.

Your Skills Development
Levy (SDL) is 1% of your payroll
and is paid via the South African Revenue Service
(SARS) to your Sectoral Education
& Training Authorities (SETA), deducted in a similar way as UIF and PAYE.
2.
Appoint a Skills Development Facilitator
(SDF), either an internal or
external person, in order to claim back on the 1% Skills Development Levy.
3.
Submit a Workplace Skills
Plan (WSP) to your particular
SETA taking the following into account:
3.1
As a new business, you are granted an extension of 6 months since
establishment.
3.2
An application for a Mandatory Grant, 50% of the 1%
SDL paid to SARS is claimed back every quarter in terms of
sub-regulations (1), must be submitted

between the 1st
of April and 30th of June of each financial year
·
Within 6 months of
registration in the case of an employer who has registered for the first
time in terms of section 5(1) of the Skills Development Levies Act.

annually if you have more than 150 employees on your payroll.

Submit bi-annually if you
have less that 150 and more than 49 employees on your payroll
